WPPR 5.3 Stern Army Tournament: January 2017 (aka San Francisco Super Selfie League Season 10)

pinball2017_0004.jpgGood times at the playoffs and finals at Gestalt! Our winner was Robin Lassonde who was next to last qualifier and ran through to win the whole thing! She got this awesome Metallica translite courtesy of Stern Pinball!
B-Division was won by Derek Lipkin who beat out Rob Coli on the final match on The Walking Dead to earn a $15 Gestalt tab for which an executive order was made!
Thanks to everyone who came out and see you again for Season 11!

Playoffs Update – check in for playoffs is by 1pm sharp @ Gestalt

Wanted to clarify the playoffs since this season will be different from previous because of some changes at the IFPA.

Basically, everyone who played in the SFSSL this season is eligible for playoffs.  As of now, there are 40 players and all 40 are eligible, having played a minimum of 3-games. There will not be a breakdown of A vs B-divisions so everyone has a chance to win the season!

The format will be group match play and the top four will receive a bye. (Those folks can arrive by 2:15pm instead and are: Eric Wagensonner, Luke Baxter, Zac Wollons and Aaron Nelson) Depending on the number of players that show up, the initial rounds will vary since we may have an uneven number of players but will be in groups.  The regular season rankings will establish the playoff seedings.

Yep the Stern Army is in SF now and our next tournament will be in January.  We’re actually going to keep the selfie league format but the WPPR values are different in 2017 so the format has been adjusted slightly.  We still wanna make this easy and fun for folks and have decent points people can earn towards their WPPRankings.

Season Ten is the first under WPPR 5.3.  All locations are available for play all month long and are listed below.  The big change is that under 5.3, qualifying games won’t count toward TGP (if you don’t know what this means, ignore it) so we’re going to require fewer games to count.  Additionally, only players with 50% or more of qualifying games that count will count in the tournament.  So this month six (6) machines count so you have to play three or else you won’t be counted in the tournament results submission at all.  The finals will be expanded as well to get more TGP and at least the top 16 will make A this season. (1/23/17 update – as of today, all 37 players are eligible for playoffs!)

Coaching is again allowed during play so you can help each other out and say what’s lit and what to go for.  This is primarily to encourage new folks who are learning pinball and since it is a selfie league it’s hard to police it anyhow so coach away!

You can play any time starting on January 1st, 2017.

You also must submit scores within 48-hours of playing  and at the end of the season the deadline for submitting is an hour after the season closes so if you don’t submit by then, your score may not be counted (this pertains only to games you might be playing up until 11:59pm on Jan. 31st, 2016). Note: Your game must FINISH before midnight so if you start a game at 11:55pm and it goes past midnight when you can finally take your selfie, that will not count for that week.

Everyone who plays at least 3-games will make playoffs  this season!

Season 10: 1/1/17 – 1/31/17 – Top 6 scores/games included – choose from:

  • Buzzworks: Star Trek the Next Generation, Guns’n’Roses, Black Rose
  • Free Gold Watch: Black Jack, Harlem Globetrotters, Paragon
  • Alamo Drafthouse: Mousin’ Around, Johnny Mnemodica, The Big Lebowski, Pinball Magic (coming soon)
  • Gestalt: The Walking Dead, KISS, PBR Can Crusher
  • The Myriad: Cirqus Voltaire, World Cup Soccer, Twilight Zone
  • Standard Deviant: Ripley’s Believe it or Not, The Addams Family

PLAYOFFS:  Saturday Feb 4, 2017 @ Gestalt @ 1:00pm

Live standings will always be available on the MatchPlay.events website here!

As far as rules of play, we will follow the joint IFPA/PAPA ruleset.  Full rules are posted at this link – all players are responsible to know the rules so if you are unsure about something, check that rules page as rules updates may occur which you will be responsible for…  Also Eric Wagensonner is also an official so you can consult him for rulings as well.

More detailed info on how to upload your scores is posted here!
